Training Center

About the Facility

The facility itself, although within an ice arena, has an artificial ice surface, which provides greater resistance to the student that will go unnoticed until they return to the standard ice surface. Resistance training is crucial in the development of muscle and strength, which are important requirements of such a high paced contact sport. More than 50% of your weight and muscle is contained in your legs. Along with your abdominals and low back, your legs provide the foundation for stability. Contrary to what many athletes' may think, having a huge chest and arms will not benefit an athlete who is required to be agile. Flexibility, core and leg strength are the three key ingredients in creating a successful ice hockey player. For this reason, Phillips Hockey implements strength, stability, pliometric, and core strength training into its regular skill development regimen, so as to produce a well-rounded athlete.
